FSU Softball Tops Minnesota State, 2-0, For Third Consecutive Shutout Win

The Ferris State University softball team utilized another outstanding pitching performance as the Bulldogs notched their third consecutive shutout this season with a 2-0 non-conference decision over Minnesota State this Monday (March 8) in a Florida Rebel Spring Games Tournament outing played at the Fortune Road Athletic Complex in Kissimmee, Fla.

The win extended Ferris State's current winning streak to four straight as the Bulldogs are presently 4-1 in Sunshine State action.  Overall, FSU improves its record to 6-5 on the season.

Ferris State pitcher Dana Bowler (Lockport, Ill.) won for the second time in a row to even her season record to 2-2 as the freshman starter gave up only three Minnesota State hits while striking out five and walking one batter in seven innings of work.  

Freshman outfielder Morgan Kramerich (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) singled in the game's initial run in the bottom of the third to put the Bulldogs up 1-0.  Senior second baseman Amanda Harrington (St. Joseph/Stevensville-Lakeshore) drew a one-out bases on balls and advanced to second base following a groundout by senior outfielder Rachel Wade (Canton). Harrington would eventually score on the Kramerich base hit.

The Bulldogs would come right back in their next at bat with a run on three hits in the fourth.  The inning began with a pair of strikeouts by Minnesota State pitcher Courtney McKelvogue before sophomore shortstop Makenzi Peterson (Big Rapids) and junior outfielder Colleen Roney (Wheaton, Ill./Glen Ellyn Glenbard South) delivered back-to-back singles.  Rachel Wade knocked in Peterson for Ferris' second run with a single after a walk to Amanda Harrington had loaded the bases.    

Courtney McKelvogue, who took the loss in the circle for Minnesota State, walked two and fanned four in six innings.

Wade, Kramerich, Peterson, Roney, and sophomore third baseman Allison Webber (Frankfort) accounted for the Bulldogs' five hits in the triumph.
