Ferris Shutouts Truman 2-0 In Bulldog Showdown

The Ferris State University softball team evened its record to 5-5 overall this season as the Bulldogs, behind the pitching of Kayle Stevenson (Holland/West Ottawa) and the hitting of designated player Rhea Flores (Dearborn Heights/Southgate Anderson) notched a 2-0 win over the Truman (Mo.) Bulldogs in Sunday's (March 7) action at the Florida Rebel Spring Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla.

A senior, Kayle Stevenson (2-3) scattered four hits in a complete-game seven-inning performance while totaling five K's and six walks.  Rhea Flores, also a senior, contibuted a pair of base hits and also produced a RBI.

The contest was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when Ferris State broke the tie as junior outfielder Colleen Roney (Wheaton, Ill./Glen Ellyn Glenbard South) hit a RBI ground out to third base to score freshman pinch runner Delaney Eubank (Frankfort).  Rhea Flores had leadoff the inning with a single before Eubank was inserted into the game in a pinch running capacity.

Ferris State would increase its lead to 2-0 through five innings as a result of scoring a run in the bottom half of the fifth frame.  Rhea Flores singled up the middle for a RBI with two outs to score junior catcher Rachel Mueller (Santa Clarita, Calif./Valencia), who had walked and then stoled second base. 

Rhea Flores and senior outfielder Rachel Wade (Canton), who both had two hits apiece in the contest, combined for four of the Bulldogs' seven hits in the game.
