Softball Wins Its Sixth Straight As Ferris Sinks Shippensburg, 6-0

Behind senior pitcher Kayle Stevenson's (Holland/West Ottawa) pitching and two-hit performances from three Ferris State hitters, the Bulldog softball team won sixth game in a row with a 6-0 non-league decision over Shippensburg (Pa.) this Wednesday (March 10) morning at the Florida Rebel Spring Games Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla.

The Bulldogs improved to 8-5 this season with the win and are now 6-1 in Florida Rebel Spring Games Tourney play.

Stevenson, a 2009 All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Second-Team selection, threw seven scoreless innings to even her season's record to 3-3.  The FSU left-handed thrower produced three strikeouts and walked one batter while giving up five Lady Raider base hits.

Ferris State jumped on Shippensburg starting pitcher Dana Ward in the top of the first inning as the Bulldogs plated three runs on five hits.  FSU scored its first two runs on freshman catcher Liz Hamming's (Hudsonville) single up the middle of the SU infield to score both senior outfielder Rachel Wade (Canton) and freshman outfielder Morgan Kramerich (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport), who had previously reached base on singles.  Following Hamming's hit, a pair of singles by sophomore first baseman Chelsea Morris (Jenison) and sophomore third baseman Allison Webber (Frankfort) would load the bases.  Junior shortstop Lynsay Weaver (Bay City/All Saints) drew a bases on balls from Ward for the game's third run.

The Bulldogs would complete the scoring for the remainder of the contest in the top of the third with three more runs on a pair of hits off of Shippensburg relief pitcher Chelsea Kendall.  A wild pitch by Kendall allowed freshman pinch runner Delaney Eubank (Frankfort) to score from third base and then two batters later, Rachel Wade tallied a RBI on a fielder's choice.  Morgan Kramerich knocked in Ferris' sixth run with a two-out RBI single to left field.

Following that frame, Kendall would be highly effective as she went on to conclude the game by retiring 13 of the final 15 Ferris State batters.

Morgan Kramerich along with Liz Hamming and Allison Webber all collected a team-high tying two hits apiece as the Bulldogs generated eight hits for the contest.
