2010 GLIAC Softball Tournament Cancelled Due To Weather

The Ferris State University softball team entered this weekend's (May 7-9) 2010 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Softball Tournament hoping to achieve a high level of success and secure a NCAA Division II Regional berth, but mother nature has intervened and forced cancellation of the tournament.

Inclement weather and poor field conditions at the Emerson Softball Complex's Currie Stadium in Midland, Mich., prevented the double-elimination conference tournament from being conducted.

As a result, Ferris State's season has likely concluded as the Bulldogs hold out a slim hope of earning a bid to the 2010 NCAA-II Midwest Regional.  The top eight teams in the final regional rankings will qualify for the postseason tourney and FSU was ranked 10th place in the latest rankings poll (May 5).

The selections to the NCAA-II Regional Championships will be announced this Monday (May 10) at 10 a.m. (EDT) via a webcast selection show on NCAA.com.

Ferris State is presently 26-16 overall and compiled a third-place tying 17-9 record in the GLIAC regular-season standings under head coach Keri Becker

Wayne State, which was crowned the 2010 conference regular-season champions, will receive the automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA-II postseason tournament.
