The Ferris State University softball team will head into this weekend's (May 7-9) Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Softball Tournament ranked 10th for the fourth consecutive time in the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Rankings for the 2010 season.  The NCAA-II Softball Committee released its latest poll this Wednesday (May 5).

Ferris State currently is 26-16 overall this season and finished tied for third place in the GLIAC regular-season standings at 17-9 under 13th-year head coach Keri Becker.  The Bulldogs, who will enter the conference tournament as the fourth seed, have won nine of their last 12 contests to date and are midst a current three-game winning streak.

The top eight teams in each of the eight NCAA-II regions will qualify for NCAA Regional Tournament competition.  The top two teams within each region will have an opportunity to host a sub-regional tournament on May 14-16.  The winners of each sub-regional will play each other in the super regional (May 21-22) with the winner advancing to the 2010 NCAA-II Softball Championships (May 27-31) at Heritage Park in St. Joseph, Mo.

The eight regions consist of Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast, and West.

Selections to the NCAA-II Regional Championships will be announced on Monday, May 10, at 10 a.m. (EDT) via a webcast selection show on NCAA.com.

Ferris State has been ranked 10th place in this season's previous three (April 14, 21, and 28) regional rankings polls.

The Bulldogs begin play in the 2010 GLIAC Softball Tournament this Friday (May 7) against the fifth-seed Tiffin Dragons in a noon (EDT) matchup of the double-elimination tourney at the Emerson Softball Complex in Midland, Mich.
