Bulldog Softball Suffers 10-0 Setback To Southwest Minnesota State

The Ferris State University softball team was limited to five hits and held scoreless by Southwest Minnesota State en route to being dealt a 10-0 loss in six innings this Saturday (March 12) morning at the Florida Rebel Spring Games Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla.
With the setback, Ferris State's overall record drops to 3-8 on the season while Southwest Minnesota State improved to 11-9 overall.
The Mustangs tallied five runs in the top of the second inning off freshman pitcher Amy Dunleavy (Canton) and never looked back the rest of the way. SMSU added two more runs in the fourth and turned in a three-run sixth-inning performance on three base hits to run rule the Bulldogs, who lost for fifth time in row.
Ferris State's best scoring chances came in the bottom of the second inning and also in the fifth inning. The Bulldogs stranded three runners on base in the second as Mustangs' hurler Ali Honken was successful in retiring senior right fielder Colleen Roney (Wheaton, Ill./Glen Ellyn Glenbard South) on a strikeout to end the frame. In the fifth inning, Ferris State left two runners on base after junior left fielder Stephanie Dusendang (Comstock Park/Rockford) flied out and senior shortstop Lynsay Weaver (Bay City/All Saints) had an infield pop up to retire the side.
Collecting Ferris State's five hits in the contest were sophomore center fielder Morgan Kramerich (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport), freshman right fielder Alex Wittman (St. Joseph), junior third baseman Makenzi Peterson (Big Rapids), Stephanie Dusendang, and sophomore designated player Lindsey Pettit (Portland). Peterson accounted for the Bulldogs' lone extra base hit on a double as FSU left nine runners on base.
For Ferris, Amy Dunleavy suffered the loss as she threw the first one and two-thirds inning while giving up four hits and five runs (all unearned). Sophomore Emily Carlson (Wixom/Walled Lake Western) pitched the remaining four-plus innings in relief and fanned five batters. Carlson allowed six hits and five runs to go with three walks.
