Bulldogs Open 2012 Season With Victory

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team kicked off its 2012 campaign with a 4-0 shutout win over Concordia-St. Paul in non-league play at the annual Florida Rebel Spring Games Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla.

The Bulldogs receieved a shutout performance in the circle from pitcher Amy Dunleavy as she tossed seven scoreless innings and gave up only four hits in the Bulldogs' season debut at the Osceola Sports Complex.

The contest was scoreless until FSU posted a pair of runs in the top of both the sixth and seventh innings to earn the win.

Senior third baseman Makenzi Peterson posted two hits, drove in two runs and scored once in the triumph for FSU.  Four others each had one hit for the Bulldogs.

Dunleavy struck out five batters and walked only three in her first outing of the campaign.

Overall, FSU had six hits to four for Concordia-St. Paul, which also had one error to none for the Bulldogs.

The victory was the first for the Bulldogs under first-year head coach Dawn Thompson.

The game was the first of two on the day for Ferris State in the Florida Rebel Spring Games.
