FSU Tops Wheeling Jesuit In Florida Contest

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team got back on track with a 5-2 win over Wheeling Jesuit (W.Va.) on Monday (March 5) in the Florida Rebel Spring Games Tournament at the Osceola Sports Complex in Kissimmee, Fla.

The Bulldogs scored four runs in the bottom of the second and added another run in the third to take a five-run advantage.  Wheeling Jesuit scored twice in the top of the fifth but could not add any more runs in taking the loss.

FSU was outhit 7-5 for the game, but the opponents had four errors in the field.

Ferris State's Amy Dunleavy hurled five innings and gave up seven hits and two runs.  She struck out one and walked two.  Meanwhile, Emily Carlson pitched the final two innings and posted two strikeouts while not giving up a hit or a run for the Bulldogs.

At the plate, senior Chelsea Morris went 1-for-1 and drew two walks.  Dunleavy was also 1-of-2 at the plate while Lainee Clay posted a hit and had an RBI. Also, Michelle Tononi recorded an RBI on her lone hit while Liz Hamming doubled to score a run.

Both teams left seven runners on base.

Ferris State improved to 2-3 with the victory and the Bulldogs are scheduled to take on St. Cloud State in Monday's nightcap at 5 p.m. (ET).
