Bulldogs Shutout By St. Cloud State In Tourney

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team could not duplicate its performance in Monday's (March 5) first game as the Bulldogs fell to St. Cloud State (Minn.) by a 5-0 score at the Florida Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.

FSU, which beat Wheeling Jesuit (W.Va.) by a 5-2 score in the first contest of the afternoon at the Osceola Sports Complex, could not crack the scoreboard and had only three hits in the nightcap.

Meanwhile, St. Cloud State posted seven hits and scored single runs in the first, third and fifth innings along with two more in the sixth to account for the final score.

Ferris State's Dana Bowler took the loss in the circle as she allowed seven hits and walked four with four strikeouts in six innings of work.

Amy Dunleavy paced the Bulldogs offensively with two hits, including a double, while Michelle Tononi also had a hit for FSU.

Freshman Kendra Merritt pitched a three-hit shutout for St. Cloud State to earn the win.  She had two strikeouts and walked only one in the contest.

The Bulldogs continue action at the Florida Rebel Spring Games with two more on tap for Tuesday (March 6).  FSU faces Lees-McRae (N.C.) at 1 p.m. (ET) followed by a matchup with Seton Hill (Pa.) at 3 p.m. (ET).

Overall, the Bulldogs are currently 2-4 in the tournament with eight more games still to play in the Sunshine State thru Saturday.
