Holy Family Tops FSU In First Thursday Game

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team returned to action on Thursday (March 8) following an off day at the Florida Rebel Spring Games Tournament, but dropped a 4-1 decision to Holy Family (Pa.) at the Osceola County Sports Complex in Kissimmee, Fla.

Holy Family scored twice in the first and added a run in both the top half of the second and fourth innings to take a 4-0 lead in the contest.

Ferris State finally put a run on the board in the bottom of the sixth, but it was not enough as FSU dropped to 4-5 overall this season with the loss in the first of two games on the day.

Amy Dunleavy pitched all seven innings for the Bulldogs and gave up eight hits.  She struck out seven and walked three while facing 27 batters.

Dunleavy also paced the Bulldogs at the plate as she had the Bulldogs' only extra base hit with a double in the game.  Additional hits came from senior Makenzi Peterson along with Morgan Kramerich and Liz Hamming in addition to senior Chelsea Morris, who tallied the Bulldogs' lone RBI of the outing.

FSU was outhit 8-5 for the game with Bianca Robinson leading Holy Family at the plate with a pair of hits, including a double.  Erica Reis homered for the Tigers.

Reis hurled all seven innings for Holy Family and allowed only a single run with five strikeouts and just one walk.

Ferris State returns to action with its second game of the day versus Southwest Minnesota State at 11 a.m. (ET) on Thursday.
