Bulldog Softball Suffers Sunshine State Loss

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State softball team allowed two runs in the first inning and could not recover as the Bulldogs dropped a 3-2 decision to California (Pa.) in Friday's (March 9) second game of the afternoon at the Florida Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.

The Vulcans scored twice in the first and added one more run in the fourth after FSU had plated one run in the third.  FSU posted an additional run in the fifth to account for the final margin as neither team was able to score in the final two innings of play.

Both teams finished with seven hits apiece at the plate with the Bulldogs receiving two hits apiece from senior third baseman Makenzi Peterson and second baseman Lainee Clay.  Both Clay and senior first baseman Chelsea Morris doubled in the game while Morgan Kramerich tripled for FSU.

Dana Bowler suffered the pitching loss for FSU as she allowed three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks in seven innings of work.

Hope Spancake earned the win for California as she hurled seven innings and gave up only a single run on seven hits with four K's and three walks.

Breanna Morris and Shelby Lia both had two hits each in leading the Vulcans at the plate.  Alyson Johnson drove in two runs.

With the loss, the Bulldogs dropped to 5-7 overall on their annual trip to the Sunshine State.  FSU wraps up action in the Florida Rebel Spring Games with two more contests on Saturday (March 10).  The Bulldogs face Minnesota State-Moorhead at 1 p.m. (ET) before taking on Shippensburg (Pa.) in the finale at 3 p.m. (ET).
