FSU Takes Win In Saturday's First Contest

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team opened up its final day of action at the Florida Rebel Spring Games with a 5-3 win over Minnesota State-Moorhead on Saturday (March 10) afternoon at Oren Brown Park in Kissimmee, Fla.

The Bulldogs gave up two runs in the first inning, but tied the game back up by putting two across the plate in the top of the fourth.  FSU surged ahead with a run in the fifth and two more in the top of the seventh and allowed only one run the rest of the way to earn the victory.

Overall, Ferris State recorded nine hits in the game to eight for MSU-Moorhead.

FSU's Amy Dunleavy drove in three runs for the Bulldogs and had two hits to lead FSU's offensive attack.  Her total included a double.  Senior left fielder Stephanie Dusendang also doubled as did second baseman Lainee Clay.  Dusendang finished with two hits along with center fielder Morgan Kramerich.

Cara DeLange started the game in the circle for the Bulldogs and allowed two runs on two hits while walking three in two-thirds of an inning before giving way to Emily Carlson.  She surrendered only one run over six and one-third innings to earn the win and allowed six hits with three strikeouts.

Both teams left eight runners on base in the game.

A. Lynch hurled all seven frames for Minnesota State-Moorhead and gave up five runs on nine hits with both four walks and four strikeouts.

With the win, Ferris State improved to 6-7 overall on the trip.  The Bulldogs were slated to face Shippensburg (Pa.) in their final contest at the Florida Rebel Spring Games on Saturday afternoon in Kissimmee.
