Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team dropped a pair of games in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Sunday (March 24) versus Wayne State in Detroit, Mich.
The Bulldogs suffered a 10-7 loss in game one of the twinbill before dropping a 6-1 decision in the nightcap.
Ferris State scored seven runs in the first three innings of the opening contest, but was held scoreless the rest of the way as the Warriors pulled out the win. WSU tallied five runs in the second inning en route to the victory.
In game one, the Bulldogs were outhit by a 13-7 count and both teams totaled four errors in the field.
Bulldog junior pitcher Dana Bowler tossed all six innings of game one and recorded eight strikeouts with no walks in suffering the setback. Emily Wickerham was the winning pitcher for Wayne State after allowing only three hits in two and one-third innings.
FSU's production at the plate included doubles from Chelsea Morris and Ali Amodeo in addition to a homer by freshman Michelle Tononi, who registered the first round tripper of her career. Tononi and Stephanie Dusendang both scored twice for Ferris State.
Julie Ingratta led Wayne State with three hits in game one.
The Bulldogs managed only a single run in dropping the second contest, which saw Wayne State pound out nine hits to three for the Bulldogs. WSU led 2-1 after three innings, but scored four runs in the fourth. Neither team was able to prouce a run the rest of the way.
Sam Cain was victorious in the circle for Wayne State after allowing only a single run on three hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
On the Ferris State side, Amy Dunleavey suffered the loss as she gave up six runs on seven hits with both two walks and strikeouts in three and two-thirds innings. Emily Carlson threw three and one-third shutout innings in relief and allowed only two hits.
Lainee Clay produced two of the Bulldogs' three hits in the contest while both Nikki Fulton and Allison Allen netted two hits each for the Warriors.
Ferris State dropped to 10-12 overall and 2-4 in GLIAC play with the back-to-back losses on Sunday. Meanwhile, Wayne State improved to 10-14 overall and 2-4 in conference action.
FSU is on the road again this Wednesday (March 28) as the Bulldogs visit Davenport for a non-league doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m. (ET) in Grand Rapids, Mich.
