Bulldog Softball Splits At Davenport

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team played its final scheduled non-conference doubleheader of the 2012 season on Wednesday (March 28) and earned a road split versus Davenport.

The Bulldogs took game one by a 3-0 score, but suffered a 3-2 setback in the nightcap.

In game one, the Bulldogs tallied two runs in the top of the second inning added an insurance run in the fifth to account for the final score.  FSU totaled eight hits in the game and limited the Panthers to only three at the plate.

Junior Dana Bowler tossed a three-hitter at the plate while hurling all seven innings.  She recorded six strikeouts to go with three walks in the circle.

The Bulldogs also received two hits from senior third baseman Makenzi Peterson, who had one of FSU's lone extra base hit in the game.  She also registered a steal and had an RBI.

FSU's eight hits came from seven different players in the lineup and the Bulldogs had no errors in the field compared to two for the hosts.

Game two was different as Davenport opened the contest with two runs in the bottom of the first and led 3-0 after three innings of work.  FSU managed to put two runs on the board in the sixth, but could not score another run in their final at-bat.

Davenport tallied six hits to three for the Bulldogs in the finale with Karlee Despres allowing only two runs on three hits with 11 strikeouts while pitching for Davenport.

Amy Dunleavy suffered the setback for the Bulldogs as she gave up all three runs on six hits and had five strikeouts.  Emily Carlson threw in relief and shutout the Panthers in two innings of action while posting four K's.

FSU's two runs in the nightcap came on solo homers from seniors Lindsey Pettit and Chelsea MorrisMorgan Kramerich doubled to account for the third hit.

The Bulldogs are presently 11-13 overall and will resume league play with a big four-game series this weekend at archrival Grand Valley State in Allendale. Saturday's (March 31) twinbill starts at 1 p.m. (ET) with Sunday's (April 1) doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. (ET).
