Bulldog Softball Sweeps Hillsdale At Home

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team opened a four-game weekend series against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Hillsdale in style on Friday (April 6) with a sweep over the Chargers in Big Rapids.

The Bulldogs took game one of the league twinbill with a convincing 9-1 triumph in five innings before rolling to a 7-1 victory in game number two.

FSU scored one run in the first and added six more in the third to jump out to a big lead in the opening game.  Two more runs in the fourth enabled FSU to earn the five-inning win after holding Hilldale scoreless in the fifth.

Ferris State pounded out 15 hits in game one to only four for the Chargers.  Makenzi Peterson tripled for the Bulldogs in the victory while Dana Bowler earned the win in the circle after striking out seven Chargers.

After three scoreless innings in game two, the Bulldogs surged ahead with four runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth.  Hillsdale managed only a single run in the bottom of the sixth and FSU added one more in the seventh to account for the final margin.

FSU held a 10-5 edge in total hits for the second game.  Amy Dunleavy was victorious pitching as she had six strikeouts and walked only one in seven innings pitched.

Ferris State improved to 15-17 overall this season along with 6-8 in league action with the sweep while the Chargers fell to 16-13 overall and 8-6 in the GLIAC.

The two teams will square off again on Saturday (April 7) in a conference doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. (ET) at the FSU Softball Field.
