FSU Takes Two From Northwood In Midland

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team hit the road and posted two convincing wins on Wednesday (April 18) as the Bulldogs swept Northwood in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) twinbill in Midland.

FSU took game one by a 6-3 score at NU's Fisher Stadium and then topped the Timberwolves 13-5 in game two, which lasted only five innings.

With the two wins, the Bulldogs increased their record to 23-21 overall along with 14-12 in league play.  Northwood fell to 16-24 overall and 13-15 in the GLIAC.

Bulldog junior pitcher Dana Bowler tossed a five-hitter in game one and struck out 10 Northwood batters while walking just one in the game to improve to 11-9 overall this campaign.

Senior third baseman Makenzi Peterson and junior centerfielder Morgan Kramerich both recorded three hits each in the first game triumph while senior first baseman Chelsea Morris drove in two runs.  Peterson notched her ninth double of the year while catcher Liz Hamming knocked out her eighth home run of the season.

Ferris State recorded 12 hits overall compared to only five for the Timberwolves although NU did record a pair of homers.  Md. Sebald tossed all seven innings for Northwood, but had only a single strikeout.

In game two, FSU trailed 2-1 after the first frame. However, the Bulldogs struck for six runs in the second and four more in the third before closing the door on Northwood with two more in the fifth.

FSU received another solid pitching performance in the circle as Amy Dunleavy allowed seven hits with both two walks and two strikeouts in hurling all five innings.  Ferris State managed 14 hits to seven overall for NU.

Peterson again paced FSU at the plate as she tallied a game-high four hits, including three doubles.  Senior Lindsey Pettit notched two doubles of her own and drove in two runs as did Morris and Lainee Clay.  Outfielder Stephanie Dusendang joined Peterson and Pettit with multiple-hits.  Dunleavy drew three walks and Pettit also walked twice in the nightcap.
