Ferris State's Dana Bowler tabbed As D2 National Pitcher Of The Week

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University senior pitcher Dana Bowler (Lockport, Ill.) has received impressive distinction for her efforts in the circle last week as today she was chosen as the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II National Player of the Week.

In addition to earning national player of the week laurels, Bowler also earned this week's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) honor for the second consecutive week.

Bowler had a dominant week of action for the Bulldogs in leading FSU to eight-straight wins over a four-day span.  The veteran ace registered a 7-0 mark for the Bulldogs on the week with a 0.00 earned run average as she did not allow a single run in 45 and one-third innings of work while helping FSU to sweeps of Saginaw Valley State, Findlay, Hillsdale and Northwood. 

Bowler's totals included six complete game performances in six starts along with five shutout victories.  She ran her winning streak to 12 consecutive games and has now pitched five consecutive shutouts for FSU along with an active school-record tying 41-straight scoreless innings of work. 

In addition, Bowler also recorded her 600th career strikeout last Friday and has shattered the school single-season mark with 193 K's to date this campaign. 

The Bulldogs' eight wins included four over regionally-ranked opponents as FSU clinched the number two seed for the upcoming GLIAC Tournament. 

On the week, the senior pitcher had 53 strikeouts and only nine walks while allowing 25 total hits. She presently leads the Bulldog pitching staff this year with a 20-6 record, a 1.08 ERA, 25 complete games, 12 solo shutouts and 193 strikeouts over 175.1 innings of work while limiting the opposition to a miniscule .185 batting average.

Ferris State, which presently has a 28-12 overall record this season, will open GLIAC Tournament play on Friday (May 3) versus seventh-seeded Tiffin beginning at 12 p.m. (ET).  The double-elimination league tournament will take place at Marathon Diamond Fields in Findlay, Ohio.
