FSU's Amy Dunleavy Chosen To Academic All-District First Team

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University softball junior standout Amy Dunleavy has been named to the 2013 Capital One Division II Academic All-District IV First Team.

The 2013 Capital One Academic All-District Softball Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.  The teams are nominated and chosen by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

As a first-team all-district honoree, Dunleavy is now eligible to receive Academic All-America accolades, which will be announced later this month. A total of 12 players were tabbed to the all-district team, including two pitchers, a catcher, four infielders, four outfielders and Dunleavy as the lone designated/utility player.

A year ago, Dunleavy was honored as a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Midwest Region Second Team selection for the 2012 campaign along with an All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Second Team pick.

Overall, Dunleavy was among only three GLIAC student-athletes to earn Academic All-District First Team status this year. The District 4 team includes schools from the GLIAC and the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).  The remaining nine representatives were all GLVC student-athletes.

This season, the Bulldog junior currently leads the squad with 37 hits, 36 RBI's and a .325 batting average in 40 contests to date. She's also scored 29 runs, compiled a squad-high eight homers with four doubles and a triple. Additionally, she's posted the squad's second-most pitching wins with an 8-4 overall record to date in 15 appearances along with a pair of complete games in 61.1 innings pitched.  Dunleavy has split time this year at pitcher, third base and DP for the Bulldogs.

Dunleavy and the Bulldogs have compiled a 28-12 overall record to date this season and are the number two overall seed for the 2013 GLIAC Tournament, which begins on Friday (May 3) at Marathon Diamond Fields in Findlay, Ohio.  The Bulldogs face seventh-seeded Tiffin in the opening round of the double-elimination event at 12 p.m. (ET).

Capital One became the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams program in 2011.
