Ferris State Drops Two Outings In Sunday Action At Florida Rebel Spring Games

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team continued action on Sunday (March 9) with day two play at the Florida Rebel Spring Games in Winter Haven, Fla.

The Bulldogs, who split two games in Saturday's first day of competition in the event, suffered an 8-1 loss in Sunday's opener to Glenville State (W.Va.) and then dropped a close 2-0 decision to Minnesota State in the nightcap.

With the two setbacks, the Bulldogs currently own a 2-3 overall mark to date this season under first-year head coach Sarah Rotta.

In the opening game, Glenville State scored the game's first run in the opening inning and led 1-0 heading into the second. The Pioneers added three more runs in the second frame to build an early 4-0 advantage against the Bulldogs.

The lead grew to 7-0 before Ferris State finally put a run on the board in the fourth inning. FSU then loaded the bases in both the fifth and sixth innings before Glenville State got out of the jam and closed the door in the seventh.

In game two against Minnesota State, the contest was scoreless thru the opening four and a half innings. However, the Mavericks pushed two runs across the plate with a walk and back-to-back singles in the fifth to account for the only scoring.

FSU put a runner on base in each of the final two innings against Minnesota State, but could not come up with any runs as MSU preserved the shutout victory.

Complete statistics from both games are not yet available.

Ferris State continues action with two more games on Monday (March 10) at the Florida Rebel Spring Games. Overall, FSU will play eight more contests this week before returning home after play concludes on Friday.

On Monday, Ferris State will face Augustana (S.D.) and Southwest Minnesota State in morning action with the two games beginning at 9 a.m. (ET) and 11 a.m. (ET), respectively. FSU will then take Tuesday off before playing three more doubleheaders Wednesday thru Friday.
