Ferris State Softball Posts Most Decisive Victory Of The Year In Saturday Action In Florida

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team posted its most decisive victory of the season to date as the Bulldogs split two games on Saturday (March 7) in The Spring Games held at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla.

On the Bulldogs' second day in the Sunshine State, Ferris State fell to nationally seventh-ranked West Chester (Pa.) in a close contest by a 5-4 score, but rebounded to post a convincing 13-2 victory against West Liberty State (W.Va.) in late night action.

The 13-2 win over West Liberty State was FSU's most decisive win of the year to date in the 2015 campaign.

In the early afternoon contest against one of the nation's top teams, the Bulldogs battled West Chester to the wire before falling in the bottom of the seventh on a walk-off hit from Sarah Walasavage, which kept the seventh-ranked Rams unbeaten on the year.

The Bulldogs, though, came back in the nightcap in a game that started much later than originally intended due to other games running longer that expected. However, it didn't slow up the Bulldogs as FSU pounded out 17 hits in the contest and senior hurler Cara DeLange picked up the victory in the circle.

Ferris State took a 2-1 lead after two innings against West Liberty State and pushed the lead to 3-1 after four frames. A five-run fifth inning gave the Bulldogs a seven-run advantage before the Bulldogs tacked on five more in the seventh en route to the triumph.

Official statistics for both games on Saturday will be available soon.

The Bulldogs continue action in the spring games on Sunday (March 8) with a pair of games again. FSU squares off against Limestone at 9 a.m. (ET) before facing Minnesota State at 11 a.m. (ET).

Overall, Ferris State will play a total of 18 games in a 10-day span at The Spring Games over FSU's annual spring break before the event concludes next Sunday (March 15).
