Ferris State Tops Findlay In Opener Before Rain Wipes Out Game Two

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team got back on the winning track Saturday (April 25) as the Bulldogs pulled out a 5-3 triumph over Findlay in Ohio.

FSU won the opening game of a scheduled two-game set after holding off a late UF rally in the final inning. However, game two was called off due to weather and has been rescheduled for Sunday starting at 10 a.m. (ET).

In Saturday's outing, the Bulldogs tallied 11 hits and scored in four different innings to top the Oilers in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC0 tilt. FSU also benefited from three Findlay errors in the field.

Sophomore pitcher Stacy Thompson registered her sixth win of the campaign by tossing six and two-thirds innings. She allowed three runs on eight hits with four walks and a strikeout. Megan Vanderwal pitched the final one-third inning for the Bulldogs with no hits or runs allowed.

Offensively, FSU's Casey Bias registered three hits to aid the Bulldog cause and tallied a pair of doubles for the Bulldogs. The quartet of Sam Bates, Sarah Johnson, Emily Reed and Rachael Gabrielson all notched two hits apiece with Reed accounting for two RBI's and a triple. Johnson also doubled for the Bulldogs.

Findlay posted eight hits at the plate and received three from Lauren Trumpler to go with two by both Jenna Huff and Emily Stewart. Trumpler hit a pair of doubles for the Oilers.

UF threw three different pitchers at the Bulldogs with Nicole Motuza suffering the loss after giving up three runs on five hits in one and two-thirds innings of action. Jenna Inman tossed three and one-third frames with two runs allowed on five hits. Finally, Bonnie Zappitelli hurled two innings with a single hit and no runs allowed. The trio combined for four strikeouts and a walk.

Sunday's makeup game currently represents the last regular-season tilt for the Bulldogs pending a conference decision in regards to whether or not FSU's rescheduled league twinbill versus Saginaw Valley State will need to be played.
