Findlay Beats Bulldogs In Postponed Game As Two Teams Split League Twinbill

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team suffered a 6-2 setback to Findlay on Sunday (April 26) as the two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) squads wrapped up a weather-delayed two-game weekend set in Findlay, Ohio.

The Bulldogs, who beat the Oilers 5-3 in Saturday's first game of the weekend twinbill before rain forced the postponment of game two, were outhit 10-5 in Sunday's finale between the two squads.

Findlay's Chelsea McManaway tossed a complete-game five-hitter and gave up only two runs in improving to 15-6 on the year as she kept the Bulldog hitters at bay most of the way. She tallied 14 strikeouts with a single walk in the game.

Ferris State's five hits included a home run from first baseman Kayti Carlson, who accounted for both of the Bulldogs' RBI's in the game. Emily Reed doubled for FSU and posted a team-high two hits while the Bulldogs also received hits from shortstop Sarah Johnson along with Alyssa Smith.

Senior pitcher Cara DeLange made the start for the Bulldogs and allowed four runs on five hits with four strikeouts and three walks in two and two-thirds innings. Megan Vanderwal pitched in relief and gave up two runs on five hits with four K's and two walks in four and one-third innings of action.

Findlay was led at the plate by Emily Stewart, who had three hits. Seven others each posted a single hit for the Oilers with Morgan Arnold notching a double and two RBI's in the game.

Sunday's makeup game represented the last current regular-season tilt for the Bulldogs pending a conference decision in regards to whether or not FSU's rescheduled league twinbill versus Saginaw Valley State will need to be played.
