Ferris State Softball Caps Perfect Weekend By Sweeping Ashland

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team stayed perfect in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play as the Bulldogs swept Ashland on Saturday (March 26) to wrap up a perfect weekend in Ashland, Ohio.

FSU, which won two games at Lake Erie on Friday to start league play, captured a 5-2 victory in 
Saturday's opener and then topped the Eagles 7-4 in game two.

The Bulldogs scored three times in the third inning to grab the initial advantage in the opener 
and then added two more runs in the seventh while limiting Ashland to a single run in both the 
fourth and seventh frames. FSU posted 12 hits to nine for the Eagles in the first game of the 
twinbill.

Senior Stacy Thompson pitched all seven innings for the Bulldogs and allowed only two runs on nine hits with a strikeout and two walks.

The Bulldogs were led at the plate by Bailey Darwin with three hits and two RBI's. She also 
doubled for FSU in the win. Meanwhile, Alexx Astorga also posted three hits with Stephanie Neuman adding a pair of hits. Emily Reed also drove in two runs.

In game two, Ashland scored twice in the first inning, but FSU responded with two runs in the 
third. AU regained a 4-3 lead following four innings and the score stood until FSU produced four runs in the bottom of the sixth. FSU then closed the door on the Eagles in the seventh to grab the win. Overall, Ferris State posted 10 hits for seven for Ashland.

Senior Megan Vanderwal tossed all seven innings for the Bulldogs and gave up four runs on seven hits with two K's and two walks.

Offensively, Michelle Tononi doubled twice and had three RBI's on a pair of hits to lead the 
effort. Darwin added two hits as did catcher Casey Bias. Both Darwin and Sam Bates also doubled for FSU. 

With the two wins, the Bulldogs improved to 19-9 overall and 4-0 in the GLIAC this season. 
Ferris State will visit Saginaw Valley State for a league doubleheader on Tuesday (March 29) 
starting at 3:30 p.m. (ET) in University Center, Mich.
