Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University's Alexx Astorga (Gilbert, Ariz.) and Bailey Darwin (Chelsea) both have been named to the 2016 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Midwest Region squad after their impressive performances this past season for the Bulldogs.

Both Astorga and Darwin claimed All-Midwest Region Second Team recognition for Ferris State and were among 12 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) players garnering regional accolades in voting conducted by the national coaches' organization.

This year, Astorga hit an impressive .380 in her first campaign with the Bulldogs and tallied 60 hits to go with 37 RBI's in 52 games. She's also recorded nine doubles, two triples and four home runs while notching six stolen bases and 32 walks.

Meanwhile, Darwin, led the squad with a .395 hitting figure along with a team-best 64 hits and 40 RBI's in 51 appearances. The three-year letterwinner produced 10 doubles, six homers and a triple while also notching a .580 slugging percentage.

Both Astorga and Darwin previously claimed All-GLIAC First Team honors this season.

The two Bulldog honorees helped FSU to a major turnaround this season as FSU posted a 36-18 mark and also finished tied for third overall in the GLIAC. The 36 wins represented a 20-game improvement over a year ago

Ferris State, which made its first GLIAC Tourney appearance in three years, posted the fourth-most single season wins in school history this year under first-year head coach Wally King.
