Ferris State Softball Earns Another Split In The Spring Games In Florida

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State Softball returned to action on Thursday (March 9) as the Bulldogs earned a split at The Spring Games in Clermont, Fla. The Bulldogs have now won five of their eight outings to date in Florida.

The Bulldogs fell to LeMoyne (Pa.) by a 2-1 count in the opening game before coming back for a 7-6 triumph over Holy Family (Pa.) in the nightcap.

In the opener, Ferris State took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the second, but LeMoyne responded with single runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to pull out the win. FSU had a 5-4 edge in total hits, but also was offset with several errors in the field.

The Bulldogs got two hits apiece from both Logan Fleming and Lexi Hongisto with Sarah Johnson notching one in the setback. Hongisto homered and also hit a double while driving in an RBI for the Bulldogs.

FSU's Abby Highway hurled six innings and allowed only one run on three hits with two strikeouts. Senior Megan Hiler pitched a single inning and allowed a single run on one hit for the Bulldogs.

In game two, Ferris State led 5-4 after three innings of action and added two more in the fifth while holding Holy Family to two runs the rest of the way in the triumph. Holy Family posted 12 hits to 11 for the Bulldogs.

Hongisto had three hits for FSU as did Sam Bates in the win while five others posted a single hit apiece. Hongisto doubled twice and drove in two runs for Ferris State.

Hiler pitched three innings in the victory and gave up five runs on nine hits with two walks while Bates tossed four innings and allowed only a single run on three hits with two strikeouts and a walk.

Ferris State will play two more games tomorrow against Rockhurst (Mo.) and Pitt-Johnstown at 1 and 6 p.m. (ET), respectively, before concluding action in the Sunshine State with another doubleheader on Monday (March 13).
