Ferris State Notches Win Over Ursuline Before Falling To Merrimack In Florida Split

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University softball resumed action in Florida again on Friday (March 9) and the Bulldogs came away with a non-league split at The Spring Games in Clermont, Fla.

FSU topped Ursuline in regional action 7-3 in Friday's opener before falling to Merrimack 7-0 in afternoon play.

Ferris State's Lexee Summers homered twice for the Bulldogs and tallied three RBI's in the game while scoring twice. Meanwhile, senior Emily Reed and Sarah Meredith both doubled in the triumph with Meredith, Katie Scheuer and Sam Bates driving in runs.

Bates claimed the win in the circle with two runs and eight hits allowed to go with two strikeouts. Hannah Leppek threw two innings in relief and gave up only a single run along with three hits. FSU had a four-run fourth inning in the victory while scoring at least one urn in each of the Bulldogs' final four at-bats.

In the nightcap, Merrimack scored four runs in the second and three more in the third en route to the shutout win as they limited FSU to only five total hits.

Ferris State's hits included two from Emily Smith along with one each by Kodi Ramirez, Jacki Stone and Bates, who doubled in the setback.

FSU's Abby Highway surrendered four runs on four hits in two innings with a pair of K's while both Leppek and Katie Ross also pitched a combined four innings, allowing three runs on five hits with two additional strikeouts.

Ferris State will wrap up its trip to Florida and action in The Spring Games with its final doubleheader on Saturday (March 10) in Clermont. The Bulldogs face Illinois-Springfield at 3:30 p.m. (ET) before meeting Queens (N.Y.) in a 6 p.m. (ET) tilt.
