Challenging Schedule Awaits Ferris State Softball At The Spring Games In Florida

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team will return to action this weekend as the Bulldogs open up a 12-game stretch in Florida over the annual spring break period.

FSU, which is off to a 4-4 overall start this year, will take part in The Spring Games in Clermont, Fla. The Bulldogs will play a total of 12 games from Saturday (March 9) thru next Friday (March 15) in the Sunshine State.

The Bulldogs open tourney action on Saturday at the Osceola Softball Complex when they face Saint Anselm at 1:30 p.m. (ET). FSU then concludes the day against Winona State (Minn.) starting at 3:45 p.m. (ET).

During the annual trip to Florida, FSU will face a challenging schedule that includes several regional matchups against teams from the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) along with Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) member Hillsdale in addition to other opponents.

The Bulldogs' first three games in Florida are all against teams either ranked nationally or receiving votes in this week's poll. Saint Anselm was ranked #1 in the country a week ago and is currently 12th the nation this week while Winona State is receiving votes in the national poll. FSU's first opponent on Sunday in day two action is #17 Indianapolis.

The 12 games are the Bulldogs' last non-conference matchups prior to starting Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on March 20 against nationally 24th-ranked Wayne State in Detroit.

The Bulldogs' initial home action is slated for March 27 when FSU hosts West Michigan rival Davenport at the Ferris State Softball Field in GLIAC play.

Ferris State is midst its second campaign under head coach Kristin Janes this spring. Last year, the Bulldogs went 17-31 overall, but won nine of their last 14 regular-season games en route to a GLIAC Tournament appearance.

Overall, the Bulldogs have made eight trips to the NCAA Tournament in school history and won 24 games or more 11 times in the past 15 years.

The largest softball event in the world, The Spring Games will feature nearly 400 teams in 2019 with more than 2,000 collegiate softball games slated to be played this year in Central Florida. Held annually since 2008, the event brings in collegiate softball teams each year representing colleges and universities at the NCAA Division II and III, NAIA and junior college levels.
