Ferris State Softball Stretches Win Streak To Four-Straight With Two Thursday Victories

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball squad notched its second consecutive sweep as the Bulldogs stretched their winning streak to four consecutive games with a pair of victories on Thursday (March 14) at The Spring Games in Clermont, Fla.

The Bulldogs won a quick five-inning affair over Holy Family (Pa.) by a 9-0 score in morning action before topping regional foe and in-state opponent Hillsdale 6-4 in afternoon play.

With the two wins, the Bulldogs have now managed to win five of their last seven outings in the Sunshine State heading into Friday's final day of competition.

In the opener against Holy Family, the Bulldogs pounded out nine hits and allowed only two in the triumph. FSU scored once in the first inning and three more times in the second before sealing the victory with five runs in the fourth.

FSU second baseman Kodi Ramirez homered and doubled twice in the win while accounting for four RBI's. Leftfielder Jessica Tucci also drove in two runs and had two hits with center fielder Paige Kortz adding a pair of hits, including a double. Five different Bulldog batters had hits with all five also knocking in a run. Ramirez scored three times.

The Bulldogs' Abby Highway tossed four innings and gave up only two hits with a strikeout and a walk. Kylie Masko hurled in relief and had a strikeout in one inning of action.

In game two, the Bulldogs built an early 2-0 lead over Hillsdale with two runs in the top of the first. The Chargers cut the margin in half before FSU answered with a run in the third, two more in the fourth and one in the fifth to push the advantage to 6-1. The Chargers scored a run in each of their final three at-bats, but could not rally despite outhitting FSU 12-8 for the day.

Kortz and third baseman Lexi Hongisto each had two hits along with Tucci. Hongisto homered twice and produced three RBI's with Kortz also belting a homer in the victory.

In the nightcap, Connor Proctor threw five innings and gave up only two runs on nine hits with two strikeouts. Kaitlyn Nugent was in the circle for two innings and allowed two runs on three hits.

The Bulldogs evened their record at 9-9 overall this season with the two wins.

Ferris State concludes action in The Spring Games in Florida on Friday (March 15). The Bulldogs will face Bridgeport at 9:15 a.m. (ET) before taking on Pitt.-Johnstown starting at 11:30 a.m. (ET).
