Ferris State Softball Stretches Win Streak To Three-Straight Games With Saturday Sweep

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball squad ran its winning streak to three-straight games as the Bulldogs garnered an impressive sweep on day two action at the Midwest Regional Crossover on Saturday (Feb. 22) in Westfield, Ind.

The Bulldogs, who earned a win on Friday night with a walk-off homer against Southern Indiana in the bottom of the seventh, picked up right where they left off as they dominated Lake Erie 15-5 in the opener on Saturday morning before taking a 10-5 victory against Truman State (Mo.) in the afternoon finale.

In the win over Lake Erie, the Bulldogs jumped out early as they put four runs on the board in the first followed by seven in the second and four in the third before eventually claiming the win in five innings of work. They outhit the Storm 13-8 overall in the win.

Four Bulldog players registered multiple hits in the opener, including Madison McLeod, Jessica Tucci, Paige Kortz and Kodi Ramirez. Kaitlyn Orme drove in three runs and Tucci scored three times while five others all scored twice in the triumph. Kortz homered with both Orme and Ali Magiera belting out triples in the game.

Senior Abby Highway hurled three innings and allowed only three runs on six hits with a walk. Kylie Masko tossed two innings and gave up two runs on two hits with two strikeouts and a walk.

In the nightcap, Ferris State fell behind 2-1 against Truman State in the opening inning, but eventually took the lead with two runs in the third and four in the fourth. Both teams netted three runs in the fifth, but the Bulldogs held on for the victory despite being outhit 12-11 overall.

Tucci knocked in three runs for FSU with Kortz, Magiera and Orme all posting two RBI's in the game. The Bulldogs also got two hits apiece from Ramirez along with Tucci and Orme while Ramirez scored three times for the Bulldogs. Orme doubled, Tucci pounded out two triples and Kylie Winkels tripled once for FSU.

The Bulldogs utilized three pitchers in the game with Kaitlyn Nugent, Connor Proctor and Highway combining to give up five runs on 12 hits with four K's and two walks. Highway did not allow a run in two and one-thirds of an inning.

Ferris State, which is now 4-4 overall this year, heads to Florida for its annual appearance in The Spring Games set for March 7-13.
