Ferris State Softball Earns Nation's Eighth-Highest Team GPA With 18 All-America Scholar-Athletes

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's softball program achieved success academically this past year as the Bulldogs had 18 student-athletes earn 2022 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete recognition while finishing tied for the nation's eighth-best overall team grade point average as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

The rankings and honors recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across the Association's membership categories. Overall, a total of 1,646 student-athletes from the Division II level were honored among the 7,527 total collegiate student-athletes from all divisions recognized.

The NFCA also released its top 10 GPA's for each collegiate division with the Bulldogs coming in tied for eighth with Southern Indiana as both posted a 3.730 combined team GPA for the 2021-22 academic year. Team GPA's and scholar-athlete recipients were submitted by member head coaches.

The Bulldogs' 18 overall individual All-America Scholar-Athletes included: Maddie Gkekas, Kristina Baar, Evelyn Blood, Kacey Bouche, Dakota Cloutier, Kaitlyn Fick, Aryn Gallacher, Kristie Gray, Paige Kortz, Abby Mitchell, Abbey Mitchelson, Kaitlyn Nugent, Kaitlyn Orme, Josie Prince, Natalie Teague, Brooklyn Verbeek, Kylie Winkels, Amara Zukowski and Katelyn Gabos.

FSU's 18 total selections were among the most in the country from the Division II ranks.

Ferris State concluded the 2022 campaign by reaching the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals. The bulk of the Bulldog roster is eligible to return next season following a year in which FSU won 19 games and picked up the program's first postseason win since 2016.
