Ferris State Softball Notches First Shutout Victory Of Year To Close Out Music City Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team registered its second win of the season and first shutout victory of the year with a 9-0 decision over Thomas More (Ky.) in regional play to close out the Music City Invitational on Sunday (Feb. 18) in Smyrna, Tenn.

The Bulldogs capped the weekend tourney with the regional win for their most impressive performance of the year to date. FSU tallied 11 hits and gave up only two in notching the nine-run win in five innings of action.

Ferris State scored a single run in the first and added two more in the third before putting four on the board in the top of the fourth. The Bulldogs then closed out the game with two runs in the top half of the fifth before holding the Saints scoreless again in the bottom of the frame to garner the win via the run rule.

A trio of Bulldogs each had two hits, including second baseman Jadyn Joseph along with first baseman Alexis Kozlowski and outfielder Abby Meyer. Joseph scored three times and drove in three runs. Meanwhile, third baseman Brooklyn Verbeek had two RBI's overall.

As part of the offensive onslaught, Kozlowski doubled and Keelin Wheaton tripled for FSU. Kozlowski, Meyer and Emma Gillard all had an RBI as well and the Bulldogs stole six bases, including two by Joseph.

FSU's Catherine O'Donohue pitched three innings and struck out four while allowing only two hits. Ashley Webb tossed two innings and gave up no runs or hits with three strikeouts and a walk.

The Bulldogs will be back in action next weekend, Feb. 23-25, with five more games on the docket at the Blue Bridge Battle in Evansville, Ind. FSU opens play on Friday versus Missouri S&T and Indianapolis in two more regional games.
