Bulldog Softball Produces Split In Day Two Play At Space Coast Spring Games

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball squad continued action on Monday (March 4) at the USSSA Space Coast Spring Games in Florida, earning a day two split in a regional twin bill against Walsh University.

The Bulldogs, who had swept a pair of games late Sunday night including one against Walsh in day one play, fell short by a 2-1 count in Monday's opener before coming back for an 8-2 triumph in the nightcap, improving to 3-1 overall in the Sunshine State.

In the opener, Ferris State scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the fifth, but WU responded with two runs in the top of the sixth and held on for the win. Walsh totaled six hits overall and limited FSU to one in the game.

The Bulldogs' lone hit came from shortstop Emma Gillard, who also scored the lone run for the Bulldogs.

In the pitching circle, Ashley Webb tossed five innings of scoreless action, allowing three hits overall with a single strikeout and walk. Aryn Gallacher threw two innings and did not give up an earned run on three hits with a strikeout.

Ferris State bounced back in a big way in game two, totaling seven runs in the second inning to break a 1-1 deadlock. FSU held the Cavaliers to a single run the rest of the way for the triumph, notching 11 hits and giving up only six overall.

Bulldog catcher Emily Killion produced three hits and drove in two runs for the Bulldogs while first baseman Alexis Kozlowski had two hits, which included a triple, and three RBI's. Outfielder Hanna Smith also tallied two hits in the game.

Gallcher tossed three innings in game two with no earned runs allowed on a single hit. She struck out three and walked one. Freshman Rylie Haist threw four innings of work, giving up only one earned run on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

The Bulldogs are slated to play two more games on Tuesday (March 5), taking on Cedarville in regional play at 4:45 p.m. (ET) and 7 p.m. (ET) at the USSSA Space Coast Spring Games.
