Ferris State Softball Sweeps Cedarville In Tuesday Action In Florida

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team kept its momentum going in Florida on Tuesday (March 5), sweeping Cedarville in regional play at the USSSA Space Coast Spring Games by scores of 9-0 and 3-2 in afternoon action.

With the two wins, the Bulldogs are now 5-1 overall in the Sunshine State over the past three days of action.

In the opener, Ferris State recorded seven hits and held the Yellowjackets to only two in the contest, which the Bulldogs won in five innings. FSU scored single runs in the first and third innings before adding three in the fourth and four in the fifth for the triumph.

Both second baseman Jadyn Joseph along with catcher Emily Killion had two hits each for FSU while Killion and first baseman Alexis Kozlowski drove in two runs each as did outfielder Abby Meyer. The Bulldogs got doubles from Joseph and Killion in the win.

Meanwhile, senior Aryn Gallcher tossed all five innings in the shutout victory, allowing only two hits while recording three strikeouts.

In game two, Ferris State was outhit 6-4, but managed to pull out a one-run victory. Cedarville struck first in the opening inning with a single run before Ferris State moved in front with two runs in the second. CU tied the game back up in the top of the third, but FSU answered in the bottom of the inning with what proved to be the deciding run.

Kozlowski notched two hits for the Bulldogs, including a triple, while both Catherine O'Donohue and Emma Gillard recorded single hits. The Bulldogs got RBI's from O'Donohue along with catcher Macy Verbeek and outfielder Hanna Smith.

FSU's Ashley Webb tossed four innings of work, allowing a single earned run on five hits with three strikeouts. Meanwhile, Sophie Wisniski tossed two hitless innings with two walks and a strikeout while Izzy Regner threw a single inning and gave up only one hit with three K's.

The Bulldogs will have an off day Wednesday and are slated to return to the field at the Space Coast Spring Games on Thursday (March 7) with another contest versus Cedarville at 12:15 p.m. (ET) followed by a matchup against Mercy starting at 2:30 p.m. (ET).
