Bulldog Softball Battles Illinois-Springfield In Two Tight Friday Games In Florida

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team dropped a pair of close regional contests on Friday (March 8) at the USSSA Space Coast Spring Games in Florida, falling to Illinois-Springfield by scores of 1-0 and 2-1 overall.

UIS struck first in the opening game with a run in the first inning and it proved to be the difference in the one-run affair to open the doubleheader as both teams were limited to three hits overall.

Catherine O'Donohue tripled for the Bulldogs in game one while both Maddie Gkekas and Abby Meyer recorded hits for FSU in the offensive attack.

Senior Aryn Gallacher went the distance for the Bulldogs in the pitching circle, allowing a single run on three hits with eight strikeouts in seven innings of work.

In game two, UIS scored once in the second and produced the winning run in the seventh after FSU scored its only run of the game in the sixth. Both teams netted four hits overall.

Outfielder Hanna Smith had two hits for the Bulldogs while both O'Donohue and Meyer registered one each in the setback. O'Donohue notched the lone RBI for the Bulldogs.

FSU's Ashley Webb threw six and two-thirds innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits with six strikeouts and a walk.

The Bulldogs will wrap up their trip to Florida on Saturday (March 9) with matchups against Mercy and Barry (Fla.) starting at 10 a.m. (ET) and 12:15 p.m. (ET), respectively.
