Ferris State Softball Splits Home-Opening Doubleheader

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball squad split its home-opening doubleheader on Monday (March 25) against Saginaw Valley State at the FSU Softball Field.

The Bulldogs fell in the opener by a 6-3 score before coming back for a 1-0 win in game two.

In the opener, the Bulldogs battled SVSU even thru three innings of action before the Cardinals put four runs on the board in the fourth. They totaled 15 hits in the game to seven for FSU.

The Bulldogs got two hits from outfielder Maddie Gkekas and Abby Meyer. Both Gkekas and Alexis Kozlowski doubled in the decision.

Ferris State came back in game two, holding the Cardinals scoreless on three hits for the win. FSU scored the game's only run in the fourth on a solo shot from Kozlowski and the Bulldogs also finished with three hits in the game.

For Ferris State, Kozlowski drove in the winning run and had a hit and a run scored thanks to a solo homer in the fourth. FSU also got hits from Emma Gillard and Meyer in the victory.

FSU's Ashley Webb pitched all seven innings in the win, allowing no runs on three hits with three strikeouts and a walk.

The Bulldogs will host Grand Valley State in league play on Friday (March 29) starting at 2 p.m. (ET) in Big Rapids.
