Bulldog Softball Earns Conference Home Split Against Davenport

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team opened up weekend action with a home split against Davenport in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Saturday (April 13) at the FSU Softball Field.

The Bulldogs took a 7-0 shutout win over the Panthers in the opener before falling 4-1 in the nightcap.

In game one, Ferris State got a strong pitching performance from senior ace Aryn Gallacher, who worked six innings and allowed only two hits with six strikeouts and one walk in the shutout victory. Sophie Wisniski came on to earn the save with no hits allowed in the seventh inning.

The Bulldogs also had success at the plate, scoring four runs in the first along with one in the second and two in the fourth. Overall, FSU pounded out 12 hits in the triumph.

Ferris State second baseman Jadyn Joseph led the hit parade with four hits and two runs scored. Centerfielder Ella McDonald also produced two hits and scored three times while shortstop Emma Gillard notched two hits and drove in two runs. FSU first baseman Alexis Kozlowski doubled and Joseph tripled in the win.

In game two, Davenport produced three runs in the second and held on from their for the win as DU limited FSU to only four hits and a single run in the fifth. The Panthers finished with six hits in the victory.

Ferris State was led at the plate in the second game by leftfielder Maddie Gkekas, who doubled in a run. Gillard, Joseph and designated player Emily Killion also had hits in the setback.

The Bulldogs' Izzy Regner started the game and tossed four innings in the circle, giving up only two earned runs on four hits with a walk and a strikeout. Freshman Rylie Haist tossed two innings and allowed only one earned run on two hits while Ashley Webb pitched the final inning, did not allow a hit or a run and struck out one.

The Panthers' Savanna Disbrow knocked in three of the four DU runs, including a two-run homer in the second inning along with a double in leading Davenport offensively. Hailey Whisman got the pitching win for DU as she went the distance and allowed only one earned run on four hits with two strikeouts and a walk.

The Bulldogs, who are now 20-19 overall and sit in second place in the GLIAC standings with a 7-5 league record, will visit rival Grand Valley State on Sunday (April 14) for a league doubleheader in Allendale starting at 1 p.m. (ET) for game one followed by game two at approximately 3 p.m. (ET).
