Ferris State Softball Opens Postseason Play At GLIAC Tourney On Thursday

Big Rapids, Mich. - The "second" season for the Ferris State University softball team begins this weekend (May 2-5) as the Bulldogs seek to claim their third Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament title in the program's history.

The Bulldogs along with five other teams are scheduled to compete in the 2024 GLIAC Softball Tournament, which will take place for the second year in a row at the Parkway Bank Sports Complex in Rosemont, Ill.

Ferris State, which enters the tournament having placed among the top four league squads, is the number four seed and will go up against number five seed Wayne State this Thursday (May 2) in an opening-round tilt at the double-elimination conference tournament. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. (ET).

FSU, under second-year head coach Jake Schumann, wrapped up the regular-season with the program's most regular-season wins, 24, in eight years. The Bulldogs' opponent, Wayne State, is currently 17-28 overall and posted a 9-15 mark in league action.

Comprising the six-team tourney field are Grand Valley State, Saginaw Valley State, Purdue Northwest, Ferris State, Wayne State and Parkside in seeding order. GVSU claimed the top overall seed after tying for the GLIAC regular-season crown with SVSU.

The 2024 GLIAC Softball Tournament Championship game is set for this Sunday (May 5) in Rosemont. A 12 p.m. (ET) starting time is scheduled for the title contest. The winner of the GLIAC Tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament at a campus site to be announced.

Ferris State has won two conference tournaments (2000 and 2005) in the program's history to date. The Bulldogs have registered a 19-24 record in GLIAC Tournament play since 2005. This year's berth will represent FSU's third consecutive trip to the league tournament.

Tickets for the GLIAC Tournament can be purchased online in advance and are $14 for adults or $8 for student/children for a full single day admission.
