Bio

Ian Janes serves as a volunteer assistant coach at Ferris State and brings a deep background as a baseball and softball coach to the Bulldog staff. He helped the Bulldogs reach the GLIAC Tournament in each of his first two seasons with the program.

Previously, he served as the assistant baseball coach from 2011 to 2017 at Fort Scott Community College where he was responsible for the offensive and outfield play for the Greyhounds' baseball program.

While on the Fort Scott baseball staff, Janes helped the squad win more than 250 games and qualify for three National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Super Regionals. He mentored and coached four professional players, 39 NCAA Division I competitors and 27 Division II standouts. Additionally, the team finished fourth nationally in doubles and 10th in batting average in 2017 after placing ninth in the country in home runs in 2016.

In addition to serving on the baseball staff, Janes also worked as a volunteer assistant softball coach under his wife, Kristin Janes, at Fort Scott from 2015-17 and was the head baseball coach for three years for the Cavalier Baseball Club in Overland Park, Kan. He also served as a grounds keeper and filled various other roles at Fort Scott, including webmaster and graphic design for both the softball and baseball programs, along with being a game day administrator. Janes was the assistant baseball coach in 2014 for the Chillicothe (Mo.) Mudcats Collegiate Sumer Baseball program.

Janes holds an associate's degree from Fort Scott and earned his bachelor of science degree in education at Pittsburg State (Kan.) University. He played collegiately at Fort Scott before transferring to Pittsburg State to conclude his collegiate career.
