Ferris Women Drop GLIAC Game At Hillsdale

Hillsdale, Mich. - A late first half run fueled the Hillsdale Chargers to a 94-74 victory over Ferris State on Saturday (Dec. 12) in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) women's basketball play inside Jesse Philips Arena at Hillsdale, Mich.

The Chargers broke the game open late in the first period to take a 51-40 halftime advantage despite FSU shooting 59.3% (16-27) in the opening frame.  HC then outscored FSU 43-34 over the final 20 minutes to notch the win.

FSU dropped to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in conference play with its third consecutive setback while the Chargers improved to 3-4 overall and remained unbeaten in GLIAC action with a 3-0 mark.

The combination of Chelsea Harrison and Janay Miller sparked the Chargers with totals of 22 and 20 points, respectively.  Harrison scored 19 points in the opening half and Miller tallied 18 points in the first frame.

The talented Charger combination was joined in double figures by three other teammates with 10 points apiece in Brooke Knight, Katie Bildner and Kayla Whitmyer.

Ferris was led by junior guard Becci Houdek's team-high 14 points.  Sophomore guard Tricia Principe added 12 points, sophomore guard Kelsey DeNoyelles also had 12 points and freshman forward/center Leah Kebler added 10 points.

FSU turned the ball over 30 times in the game en route to the loss despite shooting 57.8% (26-45) for the contest.  Ferris made eight-of-12 (66.7%) three-pointers and 14-of-19 (73.7%) at the line.

Meanwhile, the Chargers made 49.3% (36-73) of their field goal tries and connected on 12-of-23 (52.2%) three-pointers along with 10-of-13 (76.9%) free throws.

Saturday's game wrapped up the pre-holiday portion of the Bulldogs' 2009-10 schedule.

The Bulldogs are now idle until Dec. 30-31 when they travel to Indiana for a pair of non-league regional games.  FSU first visits Southern Indiana on Dec. 30 for a 6:15 p.m. (EST) tilt and then ventures to Oakland City (Ind.) the following night for a 6 p.m. (EST) game on New Year's Eve.
