FSU Women Record Third Consecutive Victory

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball team ran its winning streak to three in a row with a convincing 74-57 non-league road win at regional opponent St. Joseph's (Ind.) on Wednesday (Nov. 24) evening at the Richard Scharf Fieldhouse in Rensselaer, Ind.

The Bulldogs held only a slim 37-35 halftime advantage before outscoring the Pumas 37-22 over the final 20 minutes in improving to 3-1 overall this season.  SJC fell to 2-3 overall with the setback.

Junior guard Kelsey DeNoyelles (Mt. Pleasant/Sacred Heart) paced three Bulldog players in double-figure scoring with a contest-high 18 points on seven-of-12 shooting, including a four-of-six effort from behind the three-point arc.

FSU also received 13 points and 14 rebounds in a double-double showing by senior forward Tiara Adams (Lansing/Waverly) to go with 11 points and eight boards by junior forward Lindsey Pettit (Portland).  Senior guard Becci Houdek (Canton) contributed eight points and eight assists in the win.

Ferris State shot the ball well as evidenced by its 54.5% (30-55) shooting figure.  FSU made nine-of-18 (50%) three-point tries and hit five-of-seven (71.4%) free throws.

The Bulldogs also held SJC to only 32.2% (19-59) shooting for the game and the Pumas were eight-of-13 (61.5%) at the free throw line.  They did manage to make 11-of-31 (35.5%) three-pointers.

Ferris owned a commanding 43-17 rebounding edge and came up with eight offensive boards, which helped offset 15 FSU turnovers.  The Pumas turned the ball over only five times in the game.

The Bulldogs increased their two-point halftime advantage to as many as 21 points with 10:03 left in the game after SJC had grabbed a seven-point lead only three minutes into the outing.

St. Joseph's had four players reach double-digits as both Tatiana Ortiz and Brittney Cruse compiled a team-high 13 points apiece.  Jen Szala added 11 points and Katie Novak chipped in with 10 points.

Ferris State will break for the Thanksgiving holiday and next take the floor versus Tiffin on Thursday, Dec. 2, at FSU's Jim Wink Arena.  Tipoff for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opener is scheduled for 8 p.m. (ET).

Bulldog Bites: FSU tallied 21 assists in the game with both two steals and two blocked shots ..... SJC finished with 12 assists, five thefts and two swats ..... FSU shot over 53% from the floor in both periods ..... The Pumas were held to only eight field goals and 27.6% shooting in the final stanza ..... Ferris opened the second half on a 20-1 run over the first 10 minutes of the final frame to take control of the contest ....... The Bulldogs improved to 3-2 all-time versus SJC with the triumph and head coach Tracey Dorow is now 3-0 in her career against the Pumas .... The victory was Ferris' second-ever win in Rensselaer.
