FSU Women Fall To Chargers In GLIAC Play

Hillsdale, Mich. - Ferris State fell behind early and could not recover as the Bulldog women's basketball team lost to Hillsdale by a 81-62 score in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Tuesday (Dec. 7) evening at Jesse Philips Arena in Hillsdale, Mich.

The Chargers shot 53.6% in the first half and limited FSU to only 32.1% shooting for the frame in building a 10-point advantage, 38-28, at intermission.  They led by nine points only five and a half minutes into the contest and never trailed in the game.

The Bulldogs were able to cut the Chargers' 10-point edge at the break down to nine points two different times in the final half, but could get no closer.

Hillsdale increased the advantage to 21 points with 7:24 to go in the game on a three-pointer from senior Chelsea Harrison. They led by as many as 26 points with 3:04 to play in notching the victory.

Ferris dropped to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in the league with the loss while HC improved to 7-1 overall and 2-1 in the GLIAC.  The loss also snapped FSU's two-game winning streak on the road.

FSU was led by sophomore guard Tricia Principe's (Kalamazoo/Mattawan) team-high 17 points and five rebounds.  Senior center Andrea Clancy (Port Austin/North Huron) chipped in with 11 points in the losing cause.  Sophomore forward/center Katy Fox (Royal Center, Ind./Pioneer) chipped in with eight points for the Bulldogs.

Meanwhile, the Chargers placed four in double-digits with Harrison netting a game-high 22 points.  Laura Barczak chipped in with 18 points, Lea Jones had 13 points and Emily Anderson totaled 11 points.

The Bulldogs were held to only 33% (20-61) field goal shooting and were three-of-14 (21%) beyond the three-point line.  FSU made 19-of-27 (70%) free throws.

On the opposite side, Hillsdale converted 57% (29-51) of its field goal tries and sank 11-of-18 (61%) treys along with 12-of-18 (67%) free throws.

FSU owned a 43-30 rebounding edge with 22 offensive boards compared to only six for the hosts.

Finally, the Bulldogs finished with 14 turnovers to 13 for Hillsdale and came up with 12 assists and three steals with the Chargers netting 17 assists, eight thefts and four blocked shots.

Ferris State returns home to host Northwood in GLIAC action this Saturday (Dec. 11) at Wink Arena with tipoff set for 3 p.m. (ET).  Saturday will also be the second of FSU's Saturday "Kidz Dayz" events sponsored by Green's Sporting Goods with a number of activities available to children.

Bulldog Bites: FSU outscored Hillsdale 22-8 in second chance scoring along with 30-24 in the paint ..... The Bulldogs played all 12 available players in the contest and the reserves outscored the Hillsdale bench by a 20-12 margin ...... The win was Hillsdale's 11th victory in the last 18 meetings with the Bulldogs ..... Senior guard Becci Houdek (Canton) tallied four assists in the loss for the Bulldogs while senior forward Tiara Adams (Lansing/Waverly) netted six offensive boards.
