FSU Women Top Lake Erie In First-Ever Meeting

Painesville, Ohio – The Ferris State University women's basketball team registered a win in its first-ever matchup with Lake Erie as the Bulldogs topped the Storm 69-55 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action on Thursday (Feb. 10) night in Painesville, Ohio.

With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 11-10 overall and 7-8 in the GLIAC while keeping their conference tournament hopes alive.  The win was FSU's second-straight and fifth in the last seven contests to date this year.

FSU built a 42-30 halftime edge and outscored Lake Erie 27-25 over the final 20 minutes in picking up the win versus the league newcomer.

Junior guard Tricia Principe (Kalamazoo/Mattawan) paced FSU with a game-high 20 points in the outing while senior forward Tiara Adams (Lansing/Waverly) chipped in with 18 points and 10 rebounds in a double-double effort.

The Storm were led by Jen Caiola and Stephanie Rogers with 12 points apiece.

FSU shot 35.1% (20-57) overall for the game, but made 14-of-28 (50%) tries in the first half.  The Bulldogs hit seven-of-23 (30.4%) three-pointers and made 22-of-25 (88%) free throws.

On the opposite side, Lake Erie was 21-of-61 (34.4%) from the field and only six-of-23 (26.1%) beyond the arc along with seven-of-14 (50%) at the stripe.

Ferris turned the ball over 17 times, but held a 50-34 rebounding edge and came up with 17 offensive boards compared to only 12 for the hosts.

FSU finished with 16 assists, seven steals and a single blocked shot compared to LEC's nine assists, nine steals and six blocks.  Lake Erie totaled 14 turnovers.

Ferris State will wrap up its two-game trip to Ohio by visiting Ashland on Saturday (Feb. 12) for a 3 p.m. (ET) league tilt inside AU's Kates Gymnasium at Ashland, Ohio.

Ferris then returns home for its final three regular-season games against Wayne State (Feb. 17), Findlay (Feb. 19) and Grand Valley State (Feb. 26).
