Ashland, Ohio - The Ferris State University women's basketball team suffered a disappointing 68-58 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) setback to Ashland on Saturday (Feb. 12) afternoon at AU's Kates Gymnasium in Ashland, Ohio.

The Eagles took a 27-23 halftime edge and then outscored FSU by six over the final 20 minutes in notching the conference win.  Ashland built a 15-point lead at one stretch of the second half and Ferris could not close the gap.

The Bulldogs did hold a five-point lead early in the game before the Eagles responded in the opening stanza to grab the halftime advantage.

Ferris State dropped to 11-11 overall and 7-9 in league play with the loss while Ashland improved to 15-7 overall and 10-5 in the GLIAC standings.

Ferris was led by senior guard Becci Houdek's (Canton) team-high 18 points in the game.  Junior guard Tricia Principe (Kalamazoo/Mattawan) chipped in with 14 points for FSU, but those were the only two FSU players to reach double-figure scoring.

Meanwhile, Ashland placed three in double-figure scoring with Alyssa Miller netting a team-high 17 points.  Daiva Gerbec added 15 points and 10 rebounds while Lindsay Tenyak totaled 13 points.

FSU shot only 33.9% (20-59) for the game and made seven-of-19 (36.8%) three-pointers in addition to 11-of-11 (100%) free throws.  The Bulldogs were only eight-of-23 (34.8%) from the floor in the initial period.

The Eagles hit 25-of-50 (50%) shots and were seven-of-12 (58.3%) beyond the arc along with 11-of-17 (64.7%) in free throws.  They connected on exactly 50% of their field goal tries in both halves of the game.

Ashland also owned a 36-32 rebounding edge and forced 18 Bulldog turnovers.  They dished out 19 assists as Rachel Poorman had a game-high seven helpers and Miller added five dimes.

Ferris totaled only nine assists, but did have 11 steals and a blocked shot compared to AU's seven steals and three blocks.  Principe had four steals with senior forward Tiara Adams (Lansing/Waverly) chipping in with three thefts for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs will play their final three regular-season league games at home inside Jim Wink Arena starting next Thursday (Feb. 17) when FSU hosts Wayne State at 86 p.m. (ET).  The Bulldogs then take on Findlay on Saturday (Feb. 19) starting at 3 p.m. (ET).

FSU is still battling for a GLIAC Tournament berth as the top three teams from each division along with the next two best teams based on winning percentage qualify for the event.

With three league games left, the Bulldogs are currently tied with Tiffin for the eighth and final spot in the conference tournament following Saturday's play.

Ashland improved to 15-10 all-time against FSU with the win and has now captured nine of the last 11 outings between the two teams.
