Bulldog Win Streak Snapped By Indianapolis

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad had its four-game winning streak snapped by Indianapolis in regional action on Friday (Dec. 30) as the Greyhounds recorded a 65-55 win over FSU at Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs built a 25-21 halftime advantage, but were outscored 44-30 in the final half as Indianapolis improved to 8-2 overall and won its eighth game in a row.  FSU, which holds first place in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division, dropped to 6-3 overall this campaign.

Indianapolis claimed the non-league victory by forcing 21 Bulldog turnovers and limiting FSU to only 15.8% (3-19) shooting beyond the three-point stripe. Meanwhile, the Greyhounds shot 43% from the floor in the final 20 minutes after managing only a 26.9% effort in the initial half.

Kristin Turner led the way for Indianapolis with a game-high 25 points, but the Greyhounds made their move with her on the bench due to four fouls in the second half.  They led by only five points when she picked up her fourth with 10:22 to play.  However, Indianapolis responded by going on a 14-7 run to push the lead to 12 points.  It grew to as many as 15 points in the final five minutes.

Besides Turner, Katy McIntosh added 14 points and seven rebounds while Sydney Weinert totaled nine boards and six points for the visitors.

FSU was paced by sophomore guard Sarah DeShone's team-high 16 points.  She also had six rebounds, two assists and two steals.  Senior guard Tricia Principe added 11 ppoints and four assists, but those were the only two Bulldog players in double-figures.

Ferris State shot 37.3% (19-51) for the game and made 14-of-18 (77.8%) free throws.  The Bulldogs owned a 41-32 rebounding edge and had nine offensive boards.

Defensively, FSU limited the Greyhounds to 35.2% (19-54) shooting for the game.  UIndy made six-of-17 (35.3%) three's and 21-of-31 (67.7%) free throws.

Indianapolis posted a decisive 22-6 edge in points off turnovers and had 12 second chance points to only six for the Bulldogs.

Ferris State led by as many as six points only two minutes into the contest in a game that featured three lead changes.

Overall, Ferris compiled 11 assists, five steals and four blocks with the Greyhounds totaling seven assists, 17 steals and a single blocked shot on the day.

The Bulldogs will another Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) school in St. Joseph's (Ind.) on Saturday (Dec. 31) for a regional contest.  Tipoff for the New Year's Eve tilt is set for 1 p.m. (ET) at Wink Arena.  The game can be also be watched or heard live over the internet at www.FerrisStateBulldogs.com.
