Charlette Muller Joins Women's Hoops Staff

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University has landed another highly-successful coach from the Grand Rapids area as Charlette Muller has been appointed to the assistant coaching position in the women's basketball program under new head coach Colleen Lamoreaux-Tate.

Muller most recently spent the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons as the varsity head coach at Grand Rapids Christian High School where she led the Eagles to back-to-back regional finals appearances and a 44-5 (.900) overall record.  Her final team in 2010-11 claimed a second consecutive district championships and a second Ottawa-Kent (OK) White Conference crown before bowing out to Lamoreaux-Tate's Grand Rapids Catholic Central team in the regional title game.

"I'm extremely excited to have Charlette joining our staff," said Lamoreaux-Tate.  "I've known her for nearly 20 years and we've always stayed connected.  She brings loyalty and a great knowledge for the game.  It's going to be a really great combination."

In 14 seasons as a head coach or junior varsity coach of highly-successful West Michigan prep and college programs, Muller has developed a track record for winning, graduating student-athletes and developing talent.  She won 90 percent of her games as a varsity head coach and was the 2010 Associated Press Class A State Coach of the Year.

In her head coaching tenure at Grand Rapids Christian, Muller coached seven all-conference players and had eight student-athletes claim academic all-conference recognition.

"Charlette Muller is an outstanding addition to our women's basketball program as well as our entire athletic department," said FSU Atheltics Director Perk Weisenburger.  "Colleen has added a major element to her program by asking Charlette to be her assistant coach.  The chemistry these two have together will serve Ferris State and our women's basketball program extremely well."

Muller's first team at Grand Rapids Christian in 2009-10 compiled a 22-2 overall record with her second team notching a 22-3 mark in 2010-11.

Before becoming a head coach on the prep level at her alma mater, Muller served as Grand Rapids Christian's assistant varsity coach under Al VandenBosh for five seasons (2004-09).  She helped GR Christian assemble a 56-game conference winning streak, which was the longest in school history.

Prior to her stint with the Eagles, Muller was an assistant varsity coach at East Grand Rapids under Lamoreaux-Tate from 1999-2004.  In her time with the Pioneers, she also was the junior varsity coach and helped developed players who eventually made two Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Final Four appearances.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for me to return to the college game and I'm thrilled to be working with Colleen again," Muller said.  "Colleen was one of the premier coaches at the high school level and was always running a college-level program.  She has a way with student-athletes that is a lost art and it's a fantastic atmosphere that I'm ecstatic to be part of at Ferris State."

Muller is no stranger to the college ranks as she was a junior varsity coach at Aquinas College from 1995-97 and served in the same capacity at Calvin College from 1997-99 before making the move to the prep level.

A member of the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM), Muller earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Aquinas College.  She played basketball for the Saints under Patti Tabaldi and was a two-time All-Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) First Team selection.

Muller and her husband, Tim, reside in the Grand Rapids area along with their children Haley, Sydney, Cole and Isaac.  Her husband has also served as an assistant coach alongside her at her previous coaching stops.

Ferris State finished the 2011-12 season with a 23-7 overall record, which matched the school record set previously in 2006-07 for most wins in a campaign. The Bulldogs also advanced to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional semifinals and claimed the schools second-ever Great Lakes Intercollegiate (GLIAC) North Division Championship.
