Women's Basketball Suffers Setback In Battle Of Ranked Teams

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's baskeball squad battled the Indianapolis Greyhounds close for part of the way, but fell short in a showdown of nationally-ranked teams on Saturday (Nov. 17) as FSU dropped a 72-53 road decision in non-league play at Nicoson Hall in Indianapolis.

The nationally 24th-ranked Bulldogs built an early nine-point lead in the first half and trailed 11th-ranked Indianapolis by only four points, 34-30, at the break before the Greyhounds pulled out the win.

Indianapolis shot 48.3% over the final 20 minutes and limited the Bulldogs to only 26.7% shooting in the last half en route to the non-conference triumph.

Junior guard Sarah DeShone tallied 18 points for the Bulldogs in the setback while sophomore center Hannah Hoffman totaled 11 points and had six rebounds.  The Bulldogs also received seven points and a team-high seven rebounds from junior forward Ashley Rando in the loss.

The Greyhounds were paced by Kristin Turner's game-high 19 points.  She added seven assists in the win while Kelly Walter scored 17 points and Sydney Weinert pulled down a game-best 10 rebounds.

Ferris State shot 35.1% for the night and was five-of-20 (25%) from three-point range along with eight-of-nine (88.9%) at the stripe.  The Greyhounds shot 43.8% overall and hit 11-of-31 (35.5%) three's in addition to five-of-eight (62.5%) free throws.

Both teams had 37 rebounds and 11 offensive boards in the outing while the Bulldogs finished with 13 assists, four steals and two blocked shots in comparison to Indianapolis' 16 assists, 10 steals and six blocks.

FSU was outscored 27-10 in points off turnovers as the Bulldogs had 17 miscues to only nine for the hosts.  Indianapolis also held a 28-16 margin in points scored inside the paint and a commanding 31-10 edge in bench production.

Ferris State fell to 1-2 overall this season with the setback while the Greyhounds improved to 2-0 on the year.

The Bulldogs are now idle until Nov. 29 when they open Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on the road at Lake Erie starting at 8 p.m. (ET).
