* The Week Ahead: The Ferris State University women's basketball team visits the Wayne State Warriors for a 2013 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Quarterfinal game on Wednesday, March 6, inside the Matthaei Complex in Detroit. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. (ET).
* Ticket Info: The Wayne State men's team will host Lake Superior State at 6 p.m. prior to the women's contest. Due to the doubleheader, general admission tickets are $10 apiece or $12 for chairbacks and $3 for students. Tickets will be sold at the door or please call (313) 577-0241 for more information.
* Media Coverage: The game will be carried live by the Bulldog Sports Network and Sunny 97.3 FM with the tandem of Dan Kowalski and Dominic Hennig calling the action from Detroit following the Ferris State men's quarterfinal game at Findlay. * The GLIAC Tourney: The Bulldogs have clinched a berth in the 2013 GLIAC Tournament. The quarterfinals will be played on Wednesday, March 6, at four campus locations. The top four seeds regardless of division will host opening-round games with the official pairings released by the league office at the conclusion of regular-season play. The top remaining seed will host the semifinals/finals on March 9-10
* FSU Tourney Notes: Ferris has posted a 10-12 overall record in 13 previous league women's basketball tournament appearances and will be making its second-straight appearance in the women's field. A year ago, the Bulldogs reached the championship game in their first berth since the 2008-09 campaign when FSU advanced to the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals for the third-straight time.
* The Tourney Draw: FSU is the number six overall seed with WSU second in the draw. The other quarterfinal round games include Grand Valley State (#5 seed) at Michigan Tech (#4 seed), Saginaw Valley State (#7 seed) at Findlay (#2 seed) along with Northern Michigan (#8 seed) at Ashland (#1 seed). The remaining teams will be reseeded after the quarterfinals and the semifinals and finals will be held Saturday and Sunday, March 9-10, at the site of the highest remaining seed.
* The Records: Ferris State (13-12, 12-10 GLIAC) finished the 2011-12 women's basketball season with a 23-7 overall record, which matched the school record set previously in 2006-07 for most wins in a campaign. Last year marked the 15th time in the last 16 seasons the Bulldogs have registered double-digit wins in a campaign. FSU also reached the semifinals at the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament last year.
Wayne State (19-7, 17-5 GLIAC) claimed a share of the GLIAC North Division Championship this season with a 19-7 overall and 17-5 league mark. WSU has won 10 of its last 12 games to date, but dropped two in a row prior to a 80-66 league road win at Lake Superior State in the final regular-season game on Saturday (March 2).
* The Coaches: Ferris State – Colleen Lamoreaux-Tate (Aquinas), 1st season, 13-12 (.520) - (0-2 vs. WSU). A veteran coach with 26 years of experience on the sidelines and regarded as one of the state's top prep coaches prior to her FSU arrival, Lamoreaux-Tate most recently spent the last seven years as the varsity girls basketball coach at Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School where she guided the Cougars to a 167-19 cumulative record.
Wayne State – Carrie Lohr, 2nd season at WSU. Lohr took over the WSU program last season after serving as the head coach at St. Clair Community College for nine years. She also spent two years as an assistant coach at Oakland University.
* GLIAC North Run: The Bulldogs have currently won 29 of their last 40 conference regular-season games dating back to the start of the 2011-12 season. FSU posted a first-place 17-2 mark in league play a year ago en route to claiming the North Division crown and was 12-10 in league games during the regular-season this year.
* Tourney Notebook: The tournament remains on campus sites this season for the 11th year in a row. Prior to the 2002-03 season, the four previous tournaments were held at a neutral site location, with the final three taking place at the DeltaPlex in Grand Rapids, Mich ....... The winner of this season's GLIAC Tournament will receive the league's automatic berth into the NCAA-II Midwest Regional Tournament slated for March 15-18 at a campus site to be determined.
* Important Notes: FSU reached the league tournament title game a year ago by beating Findlay 68-61 in the quarterfinals at home (2/29/12) along with posting a 53-39 victory over Tiffin in the semifinals (3/3/12) at Ashland, Ohio. The Bulldogs fell to Ashland 66-50 in the title contest (3/4/12) on the road ...... FSU was also the tourney runner-up in 1999-00 and 2003-04 ...... Ferris had dropped seven of its previous 10 GLIAC Tourney games prior to last season's run. FSU has made it past the quarterfinal round in seven of its 12 trips to the GLIAC Tourney .... Ferris State has reached at least the semifinals in its last four league tournament appearances.
* Earlier This Year: Wednesday night's game will mark the Bulldogs' third meeting versus Wayne State this season. The Bulldogs fell to Wayne State at home 81-68 (Jan. 24) before going on the road and falling 80-61 in the Motor City two weeks ago (Feb. 21).
* Series History: The Bulldogs maintain a 34-28 series' advantage entering Wednesday's 63rd meeting and topped WSU 81-63 in last year's only matchup at Detroit (2/16/12) before falling twice this season. The Warriors had won the lone meeting in 2010-11 by a 83-74 score in Big Rapids (2/17/11). Ferris has won 14 of the last 19 series' encounters overall.
* Bulldog Notes: Sophomore Sarah DeShone is the GLIAC's second-leading scorer to date at 17.9 points per game. DeShone has 980 career points to date and needs 20 more to notch her 1,000th career point ..... Ferris State made its fifth-ever NCAA Tournament appearance a season ago. The Bulldogs reached the NCAA-II Sweet Sixteen in 2006-07.
* The First Two Meetings: FSU dropped a 81-68 decision to Wayne State in the first game this year (Jan. 24) at Jim Wink Arena. Junior guard Sarah DeShone had 24 points against Wayne State while senior guard Kylie Muntz added 21 points in the first matchup. In the second meeting two weeks ago, FSU fell at divisional leader Wayne State 80-61 (Feb. 21). DeShone reached double-digits with 11 points while junior forward Ashley Rando had 10 points in the second meeting.
* GLIAC Tourney Matchup: Wednesday's game will mark the second-ever GLIAC Tournament meeting between FSU and Wayne State. The Bulldogs beat the Warriors 59-52 in the conference tournament played in March of 2000 at the DeltaPlex in Grand Rapids during the quarterfinals en route to earning runner-up honors.
