Ferris State's Sarah DeShone Named First Team All-GLIAC

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University senior guard Sarah DeShone (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown) was rewarded for her efforts this past season by being named to the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) First Team for the 2012-13 campaign.

The announcement of the all-conference teams was made on Friday (March 8) evening in conjunction with the GLIAC's Final Four for women's basketball in Ashland, Ohio.  Voting was conducted by the conference's member head coaches.

Ashland University senior forward Kari Daughterty was tabbed as the GLIAC Player of the Year for the second-straight season while Coach of the Year honors went to Wayne State's Carrie Lohr and Saginaw Valley State rookie Emily Wendling claimed league Freshman of the Year recognition.

Ten players each were named to the All-GLIAC First and Second teams with 10 more chosen to the GLIAC All-Defensive Team.

This year marks the second consecutive year in which DeShone has claimed first team all-conference status.  She previously received Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Honorable Mention All-America honors in 2011-12 after being named to both the All-GLIAC and all-region teams.

In 2012-13, DeShone averaged a team-best 17.7 points per game, which ranked second in the conference.  She also led the Bulldogs in assists (3.1) and sank a team-high 46 three-pointers as FSU posted a 13-13 overall mark under first-year head coach Colleen Lamoreaux-Tate.

As a junior this season, DeShone started all 26 games and reached double-figure scoring 24 times.  She scored 20 or more points in 11 outings while finishing with 461 points, 120 rebounds, 81 assists and 54 steals.  She shot 39% (46-118) from three-point range and 81.3% (91-112) from the free throw line.

As a sophomore in 2011-12, DeShone averaged 14.1 points and 4.6 assists per contest in leading the Bulldogs to a 23-7 overall mark and the league's North Division Championship while reaching the second round of the NCAA Tournament. 

Ferris State reached the GLIAC Tournament this year for the second consecutive campaign and the 14th time in program history.
