Ferris State's Sarah DeShone Earns All-America Honors For Second-Straight Year

Big Rapids, Mich. - For the second consecutive year, Ferris State University senior guard Sarah DeShone (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown) was recently named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II Honorable Mention All-America Team.

The All-America was selected by a vote of the selection committee. The committee is composed of one representative from each of the eight geographical regions and a chairperson.

This past season marked the second consecutive year in which DeShone also claimed first team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) status.  She previously received WBCA Honorable Mention All-America honors in 2011-12 after being named to both the All-GLIAC and all-region teams.

In 2012-13, DeShone averaged a team-best 17.7 points per game, which ranked second in the conference.  She also led the Bulldogs in assists (3.1) and sank a team-high 46 three-pointers as FSU posted a 13-13 overall mark under first-year head coach Colleen Lamoreaux-Tate.

As a junior this season, DeShone started all 26 games and reached double-figure scoring 24 times.  She scored 20 or more points in 11 outings while finishing with 461 points, 120 rebounds, 81 assists and 54 steals.  She shot 39% (46-118) from three-point range and 81.3% (91-112) from the free throw line.

As a sophomore in 2011-12, DeShone averaged 14.1 points and 4.6 assists per contest in leading the Bulldogs to a 23-7 overall mark and the league's North Division Championship while reaching the second round of the NCAA Tournament. 

Ferris State reached the GLIAC Tournament this year for the second consecutive campaign and the 14th time in program history.

Founded in 1981, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association promotes women's basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport and to foster and promote the development of the game as a sport for women and girls. DeShone joined former Bulldog players Lucy DeMartin and Tianna Kirkland along with Rachel Folcik and Erin Miller as the only players in the program's history to attain any type of All-America accolades when she received honorable mention accolades for the first time last seaosn. DeMartin was honored as a Division II Women's Basketball Bulletin Honorable Mention selection in 2003-04 while Kirkland was a Division II Women's Basketball Bulletin Third Team All-America pick during the 2000-01 campaign. Both Miller and DeMartin were among the Division II Kodak/WBCA All-America Honorable Mention nominees in 2003-04. Folcik was chosen to the WBCA Honorable Mention All-American team in 2006-07.
