Big Second Half Leads Northwood Past Ferris State In GLIAC Women's Hoops

Midland, Mich. - A big second half led the Northwood Timberwolves to a 66-57 win over Ferris State in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) women's basketball action on Thursday (Feb. 13) night at the Bennett Sports Center in Midland, Mich.

FSU trailed by only a single point at halftime before the Timberwolves outscored the Bulldogs 37-29 over the final 20 minutes to earn the win.

Ferris State was limited to only 31.6% shooting and hit only two-of-13 (15.4%) three's with Northwood also struggling from the floor and making only 33.3% of its field goals. The Timberwolves did sink seven-of-22 (31.8%) tries from downtown.

Senior guard Sarah DeShone paced FSU with a game-high 20 points while sophomore forward Christina Branch chipped in 16 points. Sophomore guard Katie Mavis added nine points off the bench.

FSU was hampered by 17 turnovers, but did outrebound Northwood by a 45-43 margin for the game. However, NU did pull down 16 offensive boards to 14 for the Bulldogs.

Sophomore guard Lauren Robak paced Northwood with 17 points on the night while Sarah Susan chipped in 16 points overall. 

Nine different players scored for the Timberwolves in a balanced effort as NU moved to 12-10 overall and 10-8 in GLIAC action. Ferris State dropped to 6-13 overall and 6-11 in the conference as the Bulldogs have currently dropped their last five outings to date.

The contest was tied six times overall and the game featured four lead changes as both teams battled to a virtually even first half of play. 

Ferris State finished with seven blocked shots, five assists and five steals in comparison to Northwood's 10 assists, five blocks and two steals in the game. 

FSU was led on the glass by junior forward Hannah Hoffman, who tallied a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Bulldogs will continue their two-game road stretch by visiting Lake Superior State on Saturday (Feb. 15) for a 1 p.m. (ET) league tilt at Bud Cooper Gymnasium in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.

The Bulldogs have five games remaining in the regular-season heading into Saturday's tilt against the Lakers, including three home games inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena. FSU hosts Wayne State next Thursday (Feb. 20) night in Big Rapids.
